20190215 Four local high schools battle it out for Bragging Writes in the literary quiz at Skoobs Theatre of Books

So much fun was had as 16 high school children from 4 local high schools battled it out to win Bragging Writes. Natasha Sutherland was the most amazing quiz master and gamely and graciously wore her steampunk quiz master hat for the entire evening! Ms Sutherland was both efficient and entertaining while putting the questions to the students – with just a hint or two here and there!

There were six categories of book related questions for the enthusiastic participants and included questions such as:

What is the name of the vast virtual world that features in Ernest Cline’s science fiction novel ‘Ready Player One’?

a) The Oasis b) The Haven c) The Retreat

In the Great Gatsby, why does Gatsby throw his weekly parties?

a) To cover up his illegal activities? b) To impress his neighbours c) To Impress Daisy?

In which movie and book was the ‘Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator invented?

In The Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve, what is the name of the huge traction city that tries to attach the shield wall?

a) New York b) London c) Paris

Who wrote the book ‘long Walk to Freedom’?

The Lord of the Rings is often called ‘the greatest story ever written’? True or false?

Who said ‘If you live to be 100, I want to live to be 100 minus 1 day so i never have to live without you.’?

Who said “But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.”?

Which Roald Dhal book features the following quote: “A book!! What do yawanna flaming book for? We’ve got a lovely telly with a 12 inch screen and now you wanna book?!”

It was wonderful to see www.read.org.za present at this event. This is an organisation providing literacy support to both children and adults and also offers training in various areas of business and management along with community and life skills. Their Red Box is simply divine and can be purchased here.

Such a fun evening which means I am really looking forward to the next one in March 🙂
