Everything in out of sync! I missed Saturday, Sunday and Monday and I should be on #63, but here I am on #66……no discipline. I have been busy doing other stuff which I will tell you about later, but the point of these posts is to get into the habit of writing something every day, and so far, my track record is not great. However, I don’t believe in berating myself for long, so I will now recomit to trying to develop a better habit.
So, here is what I’ve been up to: On Saturday I attended a workshop hosted by ROSA (Romance Writers Organisation of South Africa) on building your newsletter database. As always, I learned something new. The amazing Ashleigh Giannoccaro discussed some of the techniques she has used to grow her list from just a few friends and family, to thousands. As always at events such as this, it is the networking that you do that helps to put things in your own world into perspective, so I thank everyone who was there for sharing their journey’s with such openness.
Attending these events also brings in more work! So Sunday and Monday saw me beavering away at two new projects – one proofreading a manuscript, and one proof-listening a manuscript. This is the first time I’m doing this and it is quite intense! However, the trick is not to become distracted by the story (not great for me, I’m afraid) but to concentrate on seeing and listening at the same time. On top of this, I proofread an incredible poetry book by a Poet Laureate and was reminded that writers have unique ways of combining words that ignite one’s soul.
What else am I currently involved in? The Schools Reading Road Show (my Public Benefit Organisation) is organising a Children’s Book Fayre on 14th March 2020 at St Benedict’s Prep in Bedfordview. We aim to have 100 child and adult authors with their books for children under 18 at the event on the day. This requires an enormous amount of behind the scenes work and the powerhouse Jann Weeratunga and the rest of the team are all trying to ensure that the event will be a success (which it will!)
The next Indie Authors Networking meeting is happening this Friday 1 November 2019 and I want to announce my super-secret project which I will talk about next week, but again, nothing comes without preparation so any ‘spare’ time I have is spent getting those ducks in a row!
These are not excuses, but a demonstration of how other stuff can get in the way of your intentions. Will it happen again? I’m sure it will, but I am going to try really hard to do a little writing every day before I let it do so!
