Silke Kaiser has conducted polygraphs for more than a decade. Her career has put her in the frontline of the crime wave that is sweeping South Africa. She has worked on cases ranging from theft, fraud, business and house robbery, murder and dishonesty. She has worked extensively on farm attacks and is intimately acquainted with this phenomenon. Silke has published two books with more in the works.
What is the first book that made you cry?
What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
The fact the printers will not deal with authors directly, but rather through a publisher.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both. Once I am writing, I find I am on a bit of a high. But then I crash.
What are common traps for aspiring writers?
They are not aware of how difficult it is to sell books in South Africa. They think once it is in the stores, they will sell thousands. This is very inaccurate.
Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
I think it hurts writers.
What do you often like talking about?
My dogs and crime.
If you could buy one material thing, and money was not an issue, what would it be?
A house on stilts in Bali.
What’s your favorite plant?
What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat?
What embarrasses you the most in front of other people?
If I am caught out in a lie.
